The High Commissioner of the Republic of Vanuatu to Australia, H.E. Jimmy Nipo, held discussions with the Charge d’Affaires of Georgia, Mr Lasha Japaridze, during a meeting in Canberra on 3 August 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views and explore areas of mutual interest, with discussions focusing on capacity development, regional security and geopolitical developments, Education and Vanuatu’s regional engagement.
A key area of discussion was capacity development, with Georgia extending an invitation for Vanuatu public servants to participate in theCapacity Development Programme, scheduled to take place in Georgia in 2027. The programme presents an opportunity for Vanuatu public servants to strengthen their knowledge, skills and professional capacity through international engagement.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional security and geopolitical developments, including the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict and its implications for Georgia.
The High Commissioner also highlighted Vanuatu’s active engagement in the Pacific region, including the participation of a Vanuatu at the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Forum in Palau. The discussion underscored Vanuatu’s important role in advancing Pacific regional priorities and strengthening partnerships with countries beyond the Pacific.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue between Vanuatu and Georgia and provided a platform to identify opportunities for capacity building, international cooperation and greater engagement between the two countries.
