Civil Registration

New Registration of Birth can be issued by the High Commission in Canberra. The father or mother of the child, or both the father and mother may notify the birth of a child.

Required documents:

• Original birth registration issued by the Hospital
• Valid passport copy of Parents
• Marriage certificate number or copy if the parents have a registered marriage
• Registration fee – $ 20

Applying by post – A prepaid return envelope (A4-sized) with self-address has to be sent with the application form and required documents, so that the High Commission can, once a birth certificate is issued, sent to the applicant

Marriage Registration:

Requirements for Registration of Civil Marriage:

• A Registration of Marriage Form Completed and signed
• Marriage Certificate issued by the congregation, Municipalities or States and the receipt.

• Registration processing time is up to 3 business days.
• Certain applications which require special consideration may take longer to process

Notification of death documents recognized by the High Commission:

• A. Medical certificate or medical note
• B. Police report or Coroner’s report
• C. Verbal Autopsy report
• D. Court Order on basis of judicial presumption of death
• E. free form of death issued by the captain of a ship or an aircraft

The High Commission recognized the notification of death from:

• A. A member of the family of the deceased
• B. Owner or occupant of the building in which a death occurred
• C. Medical or Health worker
• D. Leader of the community

Issuance of a Death Certificate fee is $15 AUD with processing time of 5 working days.

Applying by Mail

Completed Application of Death Certificate Form. Fill out the deceased’s given name and surname in French or in English as appeared in the passport or Vanuatu national ID card of the deceased.

A Death Certificate.

A copy of Passport and Vanuatu National ID Card of the deceased, certified by a person reporting the death.
