The High Commissioner of the Republic of Vanuatu to Australia, H.E. Jimmy Nipo, paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mrs Gerarda Adriana Cornelia Maria Braken, in Canberra.
The courtesy call provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the warm and friendly relations between Vanuatu and the Netherlands and to explore opportunities to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Discussions focused on key areas including climate change and adaptation, water management, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, water and sanitation, sports development and capacity building.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and geopolitical developments, as well as matters of mutual interest between Vanuatu and the Netherlands.
Particular attention was given to opportunities for practical cooperation in climate resilience, water management and disaster risk reduction, areas of importance to Vanuatu as a Small Island Developing State.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming joint event, “From Advisory to Action: Making the ICJ Advisory Opinion Count,” scheduled to take place on 24 September 2026.
The Vanuatu High Commission looks forward to continued engagement with the Embassy of the Netherlands and to translating these discussions into practical areas of cooperation that support Vanuatu’s national development priorities.
